Welcome!

My writing process-Finishing the manuscript

Hello again!

I’m afraid I’ve taken a pretty long break from most of my author social media profiles lately, sorry about the break, I’m still trying to work out the best way to stay on top of all this!

This week I’m going to add another addition

We left off last time with running my post-beta manuscript through Grammarly, so that’s where we’ll pick it up.

After I run my manuscript through Grammarly, I take it back to my Alpha reader, (mom) and we go through it again, reading it aloud as we edit to make sure it’s all it can be. We fix any tiny inconsistencies, or slightly rough lines, that are left (reading it aloud helps point out any lingering trouble areas) while fixing up the grammar.

After this, I make a list of my crutch words, (any heavily overused words, without adding to the story) you can find lists of common crutch words online, but I like to make my own, to make sure I don’t miss any, or waste a lot of time looking for words I don’t use much. A good way to discover your crutch words is to note overused words, and pull up a few lists of crutch words, run these through the “find and replace” function of your word processing program of choice, and write down those that seem to show up too often, (there is no specific number to look for, as it depends on the length of your book, but if any given word shows up several times in the same sentence/paragraph, without a very good reason, it’s probably time to add it to your list.) After my list is finished, my mom and I go through the entire book eliminating every crutch word we can, sometimes you really can’t/shouldn’t remove or change the words.

Once this is finished, we run the book through Grammarly one last time, officially finishing the manuscript.

That's all I've got this week! I hope this helps someone!

Have a great day, and keep writing!
