I hope your week has been going well!
This week I'll be finishing off the set of lessons I've learned from writing, editing, and self-publishing a trilogy. Following the theme of threes, I'll only include the top three lessons, but I have truly learned countless lessons from this adventure.
1. It's less scary than it sounds.
Self-publishing: it sounds so daunting, doesn't it? Well, I won't say it's the easiest, but honestly, it sounds far harder and more intimidating than it is. Physically publishing a book only takes an hour or two, and that's with me double and triple checking every step of the process.
2. Marketing is hard and incredibly important.
I know you've heard it before, so I'll keep it simple. Very few authors are fortunate enough to not have to market their books, and no book sells itself. Frankly, marketing for me even two years in, feels awkward, and almost futile. It's hard to put in so much energy, writing, editing, publishing, and marketing, especially when it feels like your books are doomed to remain in obscurity for eternity... BUT the trick is not to give up, or so I've been told.
3. There is no feeling like holding your book.
Let's end on a positive, shall we? Creating a book takes so much work and heartache, but every time I get to open the box with my newest book and see the product of my struggles, it's truly magical. And I don't believe that feeling will ever go away.
That's it for this week! I hope it's been helpful and pleasant for you to read through these!
Have a great day, and keep writing!
