Hello, and happy New Year!!! I hope 2024 is a great year for you!
Okay, so starting the year with a post on imposter syndrome is... a choice, I know. But please stick with it for a few minutes.
Like so many other authors and creators, I struggle with imposter syndrome, this is nothing new, and I have talked about it before. But today, I wanted to talk about when it's at its worst-whenever I'm out of practice.
As of writing this, (Dec 26th) I'm still stuck in the "just started a new story slump." This happens as soon as my excitement in writing something new, meets the fact that I'm out of practice, following all the work that went into releasing the last book.
In all honesty, it's been pretty rough lately. Sheepish Beginnings came out on October 13th, and I still haven't finished the first chapter of the second book. But between taking a bit of time off (after it came out,) the holidays, getting sick a few times, plotting, and even insomnia spikes, I've been struggling with momentum.
Now, this post actually wasn't meant to be a downer, though I'm afraid it looks that way. The actual point I was hoping to make here, is that writing is a skill AND an art form, it is something that NEEDS to be practiced constantly. And in this new year, I'm hoping to polish up my skills and build up some healthy habits, so I will have a few weapons in my fight against imposter syndrome long-term.
Does that sound good to you? Are you (also) wondering if it's even possible? Let's find out together.
Have a great day, and keep writing!
