Welcome!

Look how far you've come

Hello again!

Welcome to another of my Letters to Myself. I'm hoping to start writing these more regularly, but we'll see how that turns out in the months to come. As always, this is a letter from myself to myself, but please feel free to read along with me.

Dear author brain,

I know it often feels like you're writing uphill in the pouring rain. I know it's hard to feel like you're making any progress when every sentence you write will be scrutinized, edited, and refined countless times. And I know that it often feels like there's something more important you could be doing with your time

But right now, I'd like you to stop.
Take a breath.
And look at how far we've come.

Can you remember how it felt to write The Shoreline of Memory? How little we knew about writing? How daunting, yet excited we were every time we managed to sit down behind the keyboard? Heck, we could barely even type back then.

There were times we thought we'd never finish. Times we thought we were only fooling ourselves. Times when forming a simple sentence took all of our energy and more. Can you imagine how impossible our current situation would have seemed back then?

There's no way we could have believed that we'd self-publish 5 books in a row. No way we'd believe that we'd be making book covers out of yarn. No way we'd be able to understand how much this life would change us. Back then, we couldn't even imagine how gratifying it would feel to hold Shoreline in our hands, and now, as I'm writing this post, I'm looking at decorative shelves with 5 of my own books on them.

I don't know that we can change the world, but maybe with time, and a lot more blood, sweat, and tears, we can help others find solace in their troubles. And that sounds like a worthy aim to me.

Sincerely, your nostalgic self.

Have a great day, and keep writing!
