Hi there! In a strangely appropriate twist, I'm going to take a break from my writing process series to speak about taking breaks!
Something that is very important to remember as a writer, (professional OR amateur) is that it's VERY important to take breaks, NOT to force yourself to write every day for the rest of your life, regardless of how feel. I don't keep to a strict writing schedule, but even if you do, you should take occasional breaks, for mental health, and to celebrate landmarks in your writing.
Personally, I try to take a little time, off when I finish my first draft, send it out to betas, and when I finally publish. But I will also take time off for mental health days when I just can't get anywhere with my writing.
I'm not going to say that you couldn't force yourself to write, or that you shouldn't push yourself, but if you are just torturing yourself then STOP.
Don't forget that writing is more than just putting words on paper, you need to daydream, read, learn, people-watch, take in experiences, and LIVE. (I know there are a thousand quotes about this, but I can't find any of them!)
That's really all I've got for this week, what do you do on your days off? Leave your comments below!
Have a great day, and keep writing!
