I must admit, it is amazing that I had this post planned for this week. I pre-plan all my posts (or try to) on the last week of the month before I'll need them, when I planned this post, I had no idea how incredibly relevant this question was about to become, so I'll just be honest about what's been happening, and let you draw your own conclusions.
With Halloween one day out, I awoke with a throat so sore, the word "sore" doesn't even do it justice. Over the course of the day, I became sicker and sicker, developing a fever, aches, and shivering so badly I could barely walk. My family had to cancel our much-anticipated Halloween party, which was also an unfortunate side effect.
After a night of poor sleep, I didn't write a word, though by rights I probably could have forced myself to do a little. I simply didn't feel up to it.
Tuesday, we canceled meeting with our Church group, as I was still sick, and we spent the night watching movies. By rights, I should have written this very blog that day, but I still wasn't feeling up to it.
Wednesday found me feeling much better, yet I still didn't do anything, though I had no real excuse, other than a lingering unwellness, and lack of motivation after a rough week, (there were also a handful of other issues ranging from minor to fairly drastic mainly centered on Sunday.)
I am currently writing this post, on Thursday night. I am still getting over whatever cold/flu decided to take over my life, and I honestly could have written this hours ago, but only now have I been able to convince myself to sit down and actually write it.
I plan to write tomorrow, and the next day, hopefully putting a good dent in the current chapter of my WIP, though I doubt I'll finish the chapter until next week.
Thus remains the question; when should you force yourself to write, and when should you rest... Right now, I don't have an answer, but I hope my honest breakdown of a very unproductive week, (as of yet) can help you see that this isn't always a cut-and-dry issue.
Have a great day, and keep writing!
