Welcome!

Breaking deadlines?

Hello again!

Today's post is going to be... strange. I'm going to actually be advocating the one thing we are all taught never to do from childhood, but only in very specific circumstances.

Yes, I break deadlines... and every once in a while, I truly believe it's not only okay but actually advisable to break deadlines. Don't get me wrong, I never plan on breaking deadlines, but that said, I literally just broke a deadline (a loose one) because I found that I needed to work on some overdue research (I messed up something.)

Setting goals; deadlines, word count, page count, etc... is good, and keeping them is wonderful. But writing (at least, writing books) is creating, and I find following rules too closely doesn't always leave room for the creative process.

I still truly believe that most people should set deadlines, and daily goals, I still truly believe these tools can help us grow as writers and that having the discipline to meet goals can help up learn. But things happen, and we have to be flexible because of that.

So, yes. I just broke a deadline, and you know what? I'm glad I did it. Because I was willing to break a deadline, I was able to work on my book, and with some help from my fellow writing friends, and several online resources, I can honestly say my book will be better for it.

Have a great day, and keep writing!
