Hello again! I told you I'd be getting back to posting regularly!
I don't know if I've ever said this before, but even if I have, it's worth repeating: writing the second book in a series is SO MUCH EASIER than writing the first! With the first book, I have to introduce all the characters, settings, and basic premise of the series, as well as the actual plot of the book itself. With the second? I only have to introduce a few new things, as the first book has done all the heavy lifting for me. Although... I still have a fair bit of work to do, to make sure this book fits in the series (especially as it is only the second book.)
Now, none of that actually has anything to do with the title of this blog post, so I imagine you're a little confused right now... so let's get back to that idea, shall we?
For me, a book generally starts with one, relatively simple idea, or even a specific scene I want to write. From there I build upon it, adding ideas, flushing out the concept, and it's great fun... the problem is making sure I don't add so many ideas to this simple concept that I bloat the entire story.
Right now, (Monday, Nov 13th) I have a lot of ideas, concepts, and questions to answer before I can start really writing this book... and while I do need to answer all these questions for myself, I know better than to try and smash all these facts and details into the book. (Unless you would like to read a 500+ page book with a lot of unnecessary, self-indulgent facts and random details thrown in for no good reason.)
So, the natural question arises, how can I weed all this down? Well, I'm going to keep my focus on that core idea, flush out the details for myself, and make sure everything I put in the actual book along the way adds to the final product, rather than just weighing it down. (At least, that's the plan!)
Let's just hope it works...
Have a great day, and keep writing.
