Welcome!

Daydreaming VS writing

Hello again!

This week I thought I'd talk about something... a little too relatable.

When I'm plagued by writer's block, it often feels like there is almost a physical barrier between the next part of the story, and my ability to write it. Even if I could find the words, it feels daunting to put them on the page. So, I slip into a daydream about the plot instead.

Daydreaming can be a wonderful tool to combat writer's block... if it's kept in its proper place. But, for me, once I start to daydream about my story, it can be hard to pull myself back into writer mode.

Is daydreaming, writing? I know many writers, with huge followings, who can write far better than myself, have said it is... But personally, I think the answer is sometimes.

If you are daydreaming about your plot, to help the words flow easier once you sit down to actually put them on the page: congratulations, you are writing! If you are practicing your acceptance speech for the "Best Writer in the Universe" award... it might be time to get back to your book.

Most writers are, by nature, highly imaginative people, and often very emotional as well. That is perfectly normal, (not every writer will fit into this box, however, and that is also perfectly normal!) But it can be far too easy to slip from one daydream to another, and before long, you may not even remember where you started.

So, daydream on, my dear writers... but make sure you set some time aside to actually get those words on the page. Otherwise, it will be very hard for you to win that "Best Writer in the Universe" award.

Have a great day, and keep writing!
