Welcome!

Why I don't like marketing

Hello again!

Marketing-the bane of my existence... but why?
I've often talked about how much I hate marketing, but as far as I can remember, I've never really talked about why. So, I thought I'd explain it today!

As you may guess, my main problem with marketing, is a mindset problem, though my imposter syndrome and general self-confidence issues also play a part in it.

Have you ever noticed that 90% of ads seem to be selling the best and the most life-changing products? You can literally watch an ad for paper towels, and they are going to be sold as the New Improved, Best of all the options paper towels. And it's not as if works of fiction are exempt from this rule. Every book needs to be the best, or it's sold as something that is going to change your life.

Frankly... I can't say that my book is the best of all the options, I'm no (insert famous author here) and I know it. Besides, I haven't even read every book in my genre, let alone every book in the world! And while I hope my books make an impression on my readers, whether it's helping them through a hard time, or even entertaining them for a while, I can't promise that reading my books will change anyone's life.

I don't know how much my feelings about this are going to change in later years, (and hopefully, as I start to find some more readers) But right now... it's still hard for me.

To get around this, I try to sell the books, as they stand. Sharing quotes from the books, basic details about the plot, major tropes, blurbs, and the like. But... it's not working that well, so I'm still working on refining this.

Marketing for me-is a work in progress... but I hope I'll get there in time.

Have a great day, and keep writing!
