Making a Post-Beta Action List

Hello again!

This week, I thought I'd share how I build my post-beta action list. But... just in case you're new here, I should probably explain what that is. Whenever I'm editing, I keep an active list of things to fix in my WIP, which I call an "action list". If you want to know a little more about my action lists, check out THIS POST.

After my Betas get back to me with their list of critiques, I take some time to read through their advice and consider each point, whether it's a simple tweak on word choice or a more general issue with tone. If there are any points that I'm on the fence about, I'll move them to a separate document to consider, and I'll keep them there until I've made my mind up one way or the other, even if it takes a few rounds of editing for me to be certain.

Once I've decided which points I agree with, I compile them into a master list of tweaks. I also take this time to add any notes that I've thought of myself, or that my Alpha reader has for me. After this, I split the notes into two categories: changes that involve a specific chapter/page, and sweeping changes. Specific changes are added directly to my manuscript as comments, while general ones are sorted into chronological order and FINALLY put into my formal action list.

And once I've finished all of that, it's time to start another round of editing! I know it sounds like a lot of work (and it is,) but I promise you it's worth it... at least for me.

Have a great day, and keep writing!
